Apalachicola, Florida. Commercial Bank of Florida. 1846 $5. PCGS Currency Very Fine 20.

The bank was incorporated in 1833 until 1837 when a controlling interest was bought by Hugh Stephenson who promptly left town with the bank’s assets. These were recovered but the bank soon suspended, but not before setting up an unauthorized branch in St. Joseph. This note features a center vignette of a steamboat flanked by identical vignettes of a young farmer. End panels contain portraits of Washington and Jackson.
