CIVIL WAR SCRIPT….Orange Spring(s), FL- J.W. Pearson $1, 1862 Benice 22C PMG Fine 12.
In addition to a number of fractional value notes, Pearson also issued $1 and $2 notes. The $1 features a ship vignette which Benice identifies as a gunboat (or perhaps just a steamer). This example is printed on the back of an unidentified fiscal document. Like the smaller denomination notes, the $1 is very rare with Benice estimating a surviving population of 4-12 notes. This is only the second example of this variety that we have handled.
A scarce piece of scrip attributable to businessman J.W. Pearson from a tiny locale in Marion County Florida, just outside of Ocala.
