Description
Jacksonville, FL- Bank of St. Johns $2 Mar. 1, 1862 Benice 16 PMG Very Fine 20.
The bank started issuing these certificates of deposit payable to the bearer in March, 1862, shortly before relocating to Lake City in the face of increased military activity in the vicinity of Jacksonville. The $2 is less frequently seen than the fractional value notes from this series. It has been nearly a decade since we last saw this denomination. This example has seen circulation, but survived the experience without attracting any repairs or meaningful impairments.
