Jefferson, TX- C.D. Cosner & Co. 5¢ Oct. 1, 1865 Medlar UNL Remainder PMG Extremely Fine 40. This is an interesting local issue made just months after the conclusion of the Civil War. We do not yet know exactly what business Cosner was in but do know that he moved from Jefferson to Fannin County soon after this issue was created. The note design features an allegorical vignette of Moneta seated, flanked by two CENTS end panels. There is also a red 5 protector. Not surprisingly for a post war issue, it was payable in U.S. Treasury Notes. PMG notes a small edge tear in the left margin. Very rare with fewer than six examples known to us at present.
