Military Endorsement “(Col. Peter Cavanaugh) Woods” T41 $100 1862 PF-12 Cr. 317A PMG Extremely Fine 40 EPQ.
A fully framed example that has the unassuming military endorsement of Colonel Peter Cavanaugh Woods, commanding officer of the 36th Texas Cavalry Regiment. Colonel Woods only signed as, “Woods.” This C-note also has a manuscript interest paid endorsement to January 1, 1864. Michael McNeil reports in Confederate Quartermasters, Commissaries, and Agents on page 756 that a marker at Woods’ gravesite states that after the war “he freed his slaves, giving them tracts of land. . . .”
