Description
New York City Monk’s Metal Signs NY630BB-15f (silver)
RARITY 8 NGC MS-64 ex Donald Partrick and one of
only two tokens in the NGC Census
Charles Monk had a sign company in the New Haven Rail Road
Building during the Civil War. He obtained store card tokens
from local token maker Emil Sigel. Two custom dies
were prepared and used to strike tokens for circulation on both
copper and brass planchets. Both custom dies were also
combined with stock reverse dies for additional token
production. This is one such token that combined the original
reverse die with the scarce “United Country” die. On this
token, the merchant is identifiable only by the business
address. It is an extremely rare and possibly underrated
variety. As noted on the slab label, this token was previously
in the collection of Donald Partrick where it resided for
approximately three decades…………….
