The company was formed in 1835 and was allowed to conduct ordinary banking functions in 1838. The timing was perfect to run right into the Panic of 1837 and the company suspended in 1842 with around $120,000 in outstanding notes. The $5 note features an allegorical woman amidst flowers, appropriately titled Flora in the top margin on this variety. Another spray of flowers appears at bottom center.
