OBSOLETE CURRENCY…..

St. Joseph, FL- Commercial Bank of Florida at Bank of the United States, Philadelphia $10 Post Note 18__ G58 Benice 5A Remainder PMG Very Fine 25.
As the old adage goes “Never trust anyone who resorts to font size to improve the acceptance of a bank note.” The Commercial Bank of Florida set up an unauthorized branch in St. Joseph which collapsed during the Panic of 1837. These post notes prominently display Bank of the United States, Philadelphia (where the notes were theoretically payable). The deception was further enhanced by the design which featured portraits of famous Americans on both ends in imitation of Bank of the United States notes. Ironically the Bank of the United States, by then operating under a Pennsylvania charter, was itself teetering on the brink of failure, suspending in 1841. An attractive note (deemed a remainder because there is no date filled in) with an intriguing story. Stains are mentioned on the PMG label.
