Tallahassee, FL- Bank of Florida, Payable at David S. Kennedy, New York $2 Mar. 25,1843 Benice 11 Remainder PMG Choice Fine 15, HC. The Bank of Florida was authorized in late 1828 over the Governor’s veto. The Central Bank of Florida purchased the bank’s assets in 1833, but kept its charter alive. The charter was reactivated in 1843 and the bank was quickly resold. The new owner left town with the bank’s assets and the bank suspended specie payments in 1844. The charter was annulled in 1845. The $2 design features a vignette of a passenger train passing a five story building. The note also has a small vignette of a sailing vessel and a vignette of Commerce and Mercury. This note served as the plate illustration on page 141 in the Benice Florida catalog.
