Rutgers wore several hats; he served as treasurer for the Florida Territory and also served as cashier of the Bank of Florida. It is a bit unclear whether these notes were issued by Rutgers for his own account or for another entity but they were payable at the Union Bank of Florida in that bank’s notes. The Union Bank suspended sixteen months later. The note is quite simple in terms of design, with two simple end panels but has earned PMG’s Star designation, indicating exceptional printing and paper quality.
