Description
Tallahassee, FL- State Bank of Florida $5 Certificate of Deposit July 1, 1862 Benice 46 PMG Very Fine 20. Although incorporated in 1851, legislative and funding issues delayed opening until 1859. The outbreak of hostilities in 1861 caused the bank (and almost all others) to suspend specie payments and the bank issued certificates of deposit dated July 1, 1862 which were redeemable in either Florida state notes or Confederate Treasury Notes. The note has three boardwalk margins, with PMG only mentioning some trivial rust specks.
