This note was part of the state’s initial wartime emission and was one of 288,000 $1s issued. This variety has Governor Milton’s secretarial signature and a countersignature at upper right. Hoyer & Ludwig printed and designed this note, whose Washington portrait appears on T7 and T8 Confederate $100 and $50 Treasury Notes and whose vignette of Tellus appears on the T8 Confederate $50 Treasury Note. Since the firm also printed those Confederate notes, it comes as no surprise that these vignettes were used to expedite the design cycle for all three notes.
