Description

Tallahassee, FL- Union Bank of Florida $5 Jan. 12, 1835 G6 Benice 55 PMG Choice Fine 15.
The bank was organized in 1833 and by 1841 was unable to make its interest payment obligations, suspending the following year. 1843 saw the legislature officially called for the liquidation of the bank’s assets. The note has vignettes of a train and steamboats, but the most interesting vignette, signed by Freeman Rawdon, is that of Nehamathla (some sources list the spelling as Neamathla) who was a leader of the Red Stick Creek / Seminoles in northern Florida early decades of the nineteenth century. .
