Description
Wytheville, VA- Wythe County 75¢ Apr. 14, 1862 Jones-Littlefield CW13-08 PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ.
Many Virginia county issues can be charitably described as “battered” when it comes to condition. That is happily not the case with this very scarce southwestern Virginia county scrip note. The note has a vibrant large red 75 protector and is clearly printed on bright paper with delicate, but clear handwritten information. Jones estimates a surviving population of between 10 and 24 notes, and this is surely one of the nicer examples.
Located in the western reaches of Virginia deep within the Appalachian Mountains,
Wytheville is a small locale that was once a strategically important point during the
American Civil War. Appropriately this exceptionally well-preserved note represents the
lack of small change and the economic realities of that conflict on the circulating medium
Noted for “Premium Paper Quality” by PCGS-Currency.
